Pigments: Primary Vs Black / White

An experience never to forget. Mixing of pigments, Saturation, Shades and Tint was an enriching, encircling experience of 4 waking hours late night.

The idea of the exercise to get used to dabbing sable paint brush effectively, proportionately mixing hues with black and white and understanding the effect of each foreign material into the base and the importance of water.

The medium used for this exercise were poster colours, primary 347poster red, 1201 poster white and 344 poster black. Future colour choices will be chrome hue yellow, cobalt blue medium green and scarlet red.

This wholesome experience of mixing pigments allowed me to understand the effects of mixing a certain proportion to generate a certain level of hue and saturation and sharpness in the colour.

Hue, Shade, Tint and Tone

Hue are the variations between all the primary colours, secondary colours and tertiary colours without the effects of the Shade and Tint blacks & whites respectively.

Shade adds darkness to any colour, primary or variations of primary colours.

Tints adds whiteness to any colous, primary or variations of primary colous.

Tones are a set of greys and its effects on any hue are proportionally to way particular greyscale is developed from black & white.

Mixing of pigments in certain proportions will take you to the journey of change, that meets eventually meets at the centre of two extremities, any hue vs black / white. For example, mixing red and black will take you to brown, red and white will take you to solid pink, black and white will take you to a mid-tone grey. Mixing them proportionally will make you go through a set of emotions that how your vision brightens seen subtle changes becoming visually significant.
